The Mercedes-AMG GT was always meant as a Porsche 911 fighter, and today, the lineup got one more weapon to take on its fierce rival with the introduction of the all-new GT Roadster which will be officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show at the end of the month.
The base AMG GT, if you can call it that, will be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which delivers 469 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The numbers are slightly up from the coupe AMG GT which has 456 horsepower sent to the rear wheels. According to Mercedes-AMG, the jump in power gives the AMG GT Roadster the ability to reach 60 mph (or 97 km/h) in 3.9 seconds.
But that’s not all, the AMG GT C will also be made available to consumers. With 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque, it should bring the 0-60 time down to the low 3.0 seconds. The GT C will also feature an active rear-wheel steering system taken from the AMG GT R Coupe which improves handling by slightly turning the rear wheels along with the front wheels.
The top is fabric and, according to Mercedes-AMG, it can open or close in about 11 seconds up to 50 or km/h.
